The Babcock & Wilcox Company Again Earns ‘Best Place To Work’ Honors

BARBERTON, Ohio, September 14, 2006 The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) was again named one of the best places to work in Northeast Ohio by the Employers Resource Council (ERC) at the 2006 NorthCoast 99 ceremony on September 13 in Westlake, Ohio.

The award, sponsored by the ERC, was made following an annual, year-long effort to identify 99 great workplaces for top talent in Northeast Ohio. This is the fourth consecutive year B&W has been nominated and received the honor.

“Our employees’ loyalty, talent and commitment to excellence have made the company what it is today,” said Mike McCann, director of Administration. “So we strive to keep our employees challenged, rewarded, and cognizant of just how much they’re appreciated. Earning the NorthCoast 99 designation continues to be a great honor for us, and a true guidepost that we’re doing what it takes to be a top employer in Northeast Ohio.”

In addition to the NorthCoast 99 award, B&W’s “great place to work” initiatives were recognized earlier this year by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and Society of Human Resource Management in naming B&W a “Best Employer in Ohio.”

The ERC evaluates compensation, benefits, work-life balance programs, health and safety, training and education, employee communication, diversity, community service, and recruitment and retention programs when determining the ‘top employer’ honors.

B&W’s ‘great place to work’ initiatives include a compressed workweek schedule where employees receive every other Friday off, a flexible benefits program, generous vacation programs, complimentary health and wellness-related programs, and training and leadership development opportunities to allow employees to continually improve their personal and professional growth.

Approximately 1,500 employees work at B&W’s Barberton headquarters, primarily in design, engineering, project management, sales and administrative support functions.

Founded in 1920, ERC is Northeast Ohio’s largest employers’ association serving over 900 organizations employing nearly 400,000 employees in 22 Northeast Ohio counties. It is the area's largest organization dedicated to Human Resources and workplace programs, practices, training and consulting.

The Babcock & Wilcox Company is a subsidiary of McDermott International, Inc., a leading worldwide energy services company. McDermott subsidiaries manufacture steam-generating equipment, environmental equipment, and products for the U.S. government. They also provide engineering and construction services for the offshore oil and natural gas industry.
