Since 1960, B&W has supplied more than 240 Stirling® power boilers - a top-supported, two-drum, single-pass gas flow steam generator - units with ratings exceeding 75 million pounds of steam per hour, and which burn a variety of fuels.
The basic Stirling design has many millions of hours of accumulated service burning various fuels (e.g., eastern bituminous coal, western subbituminous coal, lignite, bark, wood, bagasse, municipal refuse and pitch).
B&W's membrane construction features a solid-metal, all-welded tube-and-bar design.
Advantages of this construction, which eliminates fire brick entirely, are:
- 100% water cooled
- 100% gas tight
- Full protection from dew point corrosion
- Ease of maintenance
- Maximum safety
- Maximum structure rigidity
