Christopher A. Long Named 2025 Babcock & Wilcox Engineering Honors Award Winner
(AKRON, Ohio – April 24, 2025) – Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) announced today that Christopher A. Long has been named the 44th recipient of the B&W Engineering Honors Award. Since joining B&W as a co-op in 1987, Long has earned a reputation as a knowledgeable engineer, an innovator, a mentor and a critical resource for the company.
During his more than 35-year career with B&W, Long has developed software tools to automate the collection and processing of field-testing instrumentation, manage program inputs to the company’s Boiler Performance Codes and enhance user productivity while reducing error potential. These innovations have saved the company and its licensees countless hours of additional work.
He also has been instrumental in transferring B&W’s best-in-class data reduction programs from older, outdated platforms to modern systems, developed an automated Velocity Pressure Average System (VPAS) air and flue gas flow measurement system and wrote software to automate data collection and reduction. In addition, he has organized and led numerous complicated performance testing activities on B&W and competitor equipment to both prove performance guarantees and address customer concerns.
“Throughout his career, Chris has exemplified the values of integrity, quality, respect and innovation that help define B&W and our business,” said B&W Chief Technology Officer Brandy Johnson. “He is an indispensable part of the B&W engineering team and is recognized and respected by his peers as an invaluable contributor.”
“I congratulate Chris on this outstanding achievement,” Johnson said. “It is a well-deserved and hard-earned honor to join the ranks of some of the most-talented and committed engineers in B&W’s long history.”
A resident of Wadsworth, Ohio, Long holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Akron. He currently serves as B&W’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) for both Boiler Performance and Fan and Air Heater Performance.
The B&W Engineering Honors Award was conceived in 1983 to recognize individuals who are selected by their peers for their extraordinary long-term contributions, commitment, hard work and efforts that have left an enduring mark of excellence on their colleagues, the company and its customers.
