Emissions Control

Our engineered solutions control a wide range of pollutants and emissions, such as acid mists and gases including hydrogen chloride (HCl) and sulfur oxides (SOx), particulates, nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), mercury, and other hazardous air pollutants (HAPs).

Emissions Control Overview

B&W is an innovator and industry leader in providing advanced air emissions control and energy recovery equipment and technologies for power plants and industrial processes.

Flue Gas Pre-Treatment for Post-Combustion Carbon Capture

Solvent-based scrubbing technologies, like B&W’s SolveBright™ process, often require reductions in various pollutants found in the incoming flue gas. Pre-treatment of the flue gas is vital for the operation and economics of the process to result in the optimum effectiveness of the carbon capture technology.

Mercury and HAPs Control

We can tailor a multi-faceted mercury control solution that considers many variables, such as the existing or planned emissions control system, fuel, flue gas composition, flyash characteristics, stack mercury limits and many other operational factors.

NOx Control

B&W’s proven suite of NOx control solutions includes selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) technologies, low-NOx burners, and combustion air staging with overfire air ports, all key components of an overall NOx reduction strategy.

Particulate and Acid Mists

B&W has extensive experience with both dry and wet electrostatic precipitator (ESP) technologies, and fabric filter baghouses. Our proven solutions are removing fine and coarse particulate in a wide range of applications, including power generation, waste-to-energy, cement, chemical, oil & gas, pulp & paper, metals/steel, and others.

SO2 & Acid Gases

B&W offers a variety of solutions for the removal of acid gases such as sulfur oxides (SO2 and SO3), hydrogen chloride (HCl), hydrogen fluoride (HF) and other hazardous air pollutants (HAPs).

Waste Incineration Emissions Control

B&W offers both fully assembled installations and subsystems for cleaning flue gases generated by the incineration of municipal and industrial waste and the combustion of biofuels.

Wastewater/Zero Liquid Discharge

For coal-fired power generation applications, B&W's spray dryer offers true zero liquid discharge by using the latent heat of the boiler flue gas to evaporate the entire wet FGD waste stream. We also provide solutions to mitigate discharge water from wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) wastewater applications.

Wet Gas Scrubbers for Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) Emissions Control

Developed by ExxonMobil in the 1970s and now licensed by B&W, wet gas scrubbing technology removes particulates and sulfur dioxide (SO2) by intimate mixing of the flue gases with an aqueous scrubbing liquid. The technology can also be enhanced to meet tighter restrictions on nitrogen oxides (NOx) or particulate. This well-proven technology provides refiners with numerous advantages for maximum FCC unit availability.
