New white paper: Reduce emissions by optimizing combustion

New white paper Reduce emissions by optimizing combustion

One strategy to reduce emissions at power plants is optimization of the combustion process. Our FocalPoint® system has proven to be a cost-effective means to achieve CO and NOx emissions reduction while also lowering O2 to achieve better unit heat rate and efficiency. A new technical paper highlights how it was used at a plant in the U.S. to reduce emissions and improve heat rate.

PEOPLE SPOTLIGHT: Rhiannon Wilcox

PEOPLE SPOTLIGHT rhiannon

Rhiannon Wilcox, HSEQ Advisor at our Margam O&M site in Wales, recently gained her NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety with exceptional marks. She has been instrumental in the site achieving ISO 14001 accreditation, implementing an improved site attendance monitoring system and developing an overall positive approach to managing the health and safety of all on site. Pictured above (far right), she demonstrated a new oil spill treatment that biodegrades oil to minimize environmental impact and prevent waste.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: Inconel at Eeklo

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT eeklo

B&W Renewable Service won an order to replace superheaters and supply on-site Inconel® cladding in the first boiler pass of IVM’s waste-to-energy line 2 in Eeklo, Belgium. The scope of supply included project management, engineering, design and third-party approval, manufacturing, delivery, dismantling, installation and documentation. With this upgrade, IVM can increase capacity from 20 to 24 t/h and raise steam production.

Asked&Answered: Sulfuric acid plant casing failures

ASKEDANSWERED sulfplant

Q: What modifications can help reduce superheater casing failures at sulfuric acid plants?

A: It’s important to perform routine inspection of high-temperature surfaces. In the superheater inlet transition ducts, environmental exposure can lead to cracks and/or warping of the casing and stiffeners. Modifications can include optimizing the superheater lagging design, proper casing insulation and/or rain shields.
